The Demigod Files by Rick Riordan *****

The demigod files is a book about Percy Jackson and three of his most dangerous stories.

Story 1: Percy is in school in New York when he sees Clarisse out the window of his classroom, he asks to go to the bathroom but instead he goes to ask Clarisse what she is doing there. She says that she borrowed her dad's chariot for a drive and her dad told her to return it by the evening, but her mean brothers, Phobos and Deimos stole it as a prank, and Phobos appears there and makes fun of them, but then Percy finds out that Phobos is the god of fear, so that means that he can show anybody their fear, and he shows Clarisse her fear. Percy attacks him and he disappears giving them a clue that the chariot is in a zoo an an island nearby. By that Percy knows that there is a zoo on Staten Island, they are taking a quick ferry but they find Deimos and fight him a little. They reach the island zoo and they find the chariot, but something is fishy, then both of the brothers appear, and they fight, at the end they defeat them and return the chariot to her dad.

Story 2: Percy is at Camp-Half-Blood playing capture the flag, him and his friend from his team are trying to find the other team's flag but they find Mymerkes, which means ancient ants in Greek, Mymerkes are about the size about a golden retriever, and they see the ants carrying a metallic dragon head, but Percy's friend run's to battle the ants and gets captured by them. And then they find help by Annabeth and her friend. They suddenly realize that the dragon head is the missing head of the golden dragon, the dragon that used to protect camp, which went missing a long time ago. The steal the head from the ants and look for the body, they find it and they assemble the head back on and commands the dragon to bring Percy's friend back and he does, and the dragon defeats the Mymerkes too. The end.

Story 3: Percy, Thalia, and Nico are sent on a quest, to get back Hades' stolen sword. They are given a flower that will help them find it, they go to find it and they are stopped by this river that if you go in it you forget everything, so Percy controls the water in the river so they can cross it, they cross it and they find the thief, a demigod named Ethan Nakamura, he gives it to a Titan, who Percy defeat's and at the end he returns the sword to Hades.

My favorite story was the 3rd one.

5 Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat *****

It is just a great book, it is about what not to do at IIT, which is then best college in India. The book is about 3 friends, Alok, Ryan and Hari. Ryan is like this macho man who is super strong and cool, but Hari and Alok aren't exactly what you can call macho, they are kind of fat and chubby. What happens to them is just weird, Ryan just keeps thinking about fun and not doing work, but Hari and Alok are a little bit more serious about work. As they continue their college life, they are getting bad grades, and 5 point something GPA'S, which really bothers them. Ryan gives Hari an idea to steal the majors paper from the principles office, and they try but are caught by security. They are suspended for 1 semester, and after Alok hears that, he tries committing suicide, but he survivies. They graduate and they get okay jobs and it ends like that.

Vampire Blood Trilogy Book One (Cirque de Freak) by Darren Shan ******

This is a pretty good book. It is about this boy named Darren who finds flyer of a freak show, and he wants to go to i with his friend Steve. They get tickets and they go there and watch the show. But Steve notices something, he saw a vampire and a spider performing in the show, but nobody else knew he was a vampire, and the spider was amazing, it could do tricks just by a blow of a flute. After the show, Steve goes to the vampire and asks if he can make him a vampire too, the vampire said he would try, so they start the process, but the vampire says that Steve has evil blood so he cant become one. And while that is happening, Darren is watching Steve. And then something pops up into Darren's mind, he wanted to steal the spider, so he steals it and shows it to Steve. Steve said that he wanted Darren make the spider do a trick on Steve, and Darren concentrated hard on the flute, and gave the spider directions how to do the trick, but it the flute gets interrupted, the spider will bite. So they do the trick, but Darren's little sister interrupts, and the spider bites. So they take him to the hospital and he is almost dead, so Darren goes to the vampire and asks him to cure Steve, but there are conditions. The first one is to give the spider back, and the second one is to become the vampires assistant, and that is crazy. Darren agrees and becomes a vampire and the vampire heals Steve. But one day Steve caught Darren sucking blood from someones cut. And Steve follows Darren and threatens him that he will kill him, and Darren tells him to back off. THE END.

Vocab 7

  1. Mildew- this is when your clothes are wet, after getting washed, and is taking a long time to dry, your clothes get mildew on it. Mildew is like black fungus that smells.
  2. Hatch- this has two meanings a.one is when an egg has a chicken in it, and the egg cracks and the chicken comes out. b. it is also a door used on ships, they are little small doors that are on the ground.
  3. Out of the blue- this kind of means out of no where. Like if a teacher is teaching and a student raises their hand and says "lets go to the movies!", that would be out of the blue.
  4. Chateau- this is a French word, it means a big nice house, it cannot be a castle.
  5. Orientation- this is like when you go to your new student orientation at school, the word orientation means to kind of make you get your way around, the new student orientation is to teach you your school schedule, and to show the the ways to get around school.
  6. Preserve- this is to keep something safe, like you know when peeled apples get brown when they are left somewhere, a way to preserve it is to put it in water, it will prevent it from becoming brown.
  7. Fault- a fault is like a mistake, like if you get in trouble at school, it would be a fault. Also there are faults in the earth's structure.
  8. Thunderous- this is like speaking loud, like if your parents get mad at you, they will speak to you in a thunderous tone.
  9. Contradiction- a start of an argument, example: "Yash do your homework now!" said mom, "But I wanna play soccer now!" Yash growled back.
  10. Hesitantly- this is like stumbling while doing something, hesitating.

Journal Entry 2/2/10

Today I am going to talk about how much I hate rap music, rap is so boring, and its still boring. It has no rythem, but metal is awesome. It has a beat, and it has cool instruments like guitar, and drums, and bass. Rap is just A DJ playing music and people rhyming to it. The lyrics are boring in rap, but in metal the lyrics are cool. And if you are in a concert, you dont have much fun in a rap concert, you do in a rock concert, because you can headband and mosh everywhere. If you go to a metal concert you will have the time of your life, you wont in a rap concert. Once again, I will say that rap is boring, and metal and rock is not. But rap does have its advantages and disadvantages. 70% of the world listen to music, 30% do not. In that 70%, 30% listen to rap, and 10% listen to metal. That is one advantage of rap, so if the percentage is more, then more people will be encouraged to try to listen to the genre of the music.

Journal Entry 27/1/10

I just keep thinking about going on an adventure one day, something like climbing a mountain, sailing across oceans, stuff like that. But barely people get chances, climbing a mountain costs a load, sailing across oceans will take alot of time and will also cost a load. People should be given a chance in life to get to go on an adventure. If I had to pick an adventure to go on, I would go scuba diving, looking for a sunken ship underwater. I would be darn excited to do that, it would just be amazing. Going underwater, looking at all those fish and sea creatures, wow. One day I will go on an adventure, maybe not scuba diving but any type of adventure. Adventures are fun, cool, you can get a learning expirience, and they're just awesome.

Haiti History-Why is it so poor?

Haiti was a poor country even before the earthquake, and since the quake hit them, it made them even poorer.

Haiti was controlled bay France, and there was a big slave revolt, and 150,000 people died, that was a very very big loss.

Another reason is because they were also attacked by H.I.V (aids). And aids can kill, so people started dying.

Also after independence, haiti was struggling with corruption, and that was very hard for them to go through.

Haiti also had to pay to a foriegn country for its liberty, they had to pay 60m francs in gold, and Haiti coudnt afford that, so they had to pay the debt slowly.

Also Haitians started cutting down tress, using them as charcoal, and almost 98 percent of the country's forests were gone, that leaves 2 percent of forests.

Before the 1960's, haiti was exporting coffee, and then the coffee prices around the world fell so low that they had find something else to plant. So people started to plant corn, peanuts and bannanas to feed their family, until some person came up and tought them how to make charcoal, and then there started to be loss of trees, no forests, no water or food, all because of the charcoal.

Soil erosion had killed all the mangroves, and coral reefs. And for people to fish for food, they needed to go far away, but they didnt have enough money for boats.

Haiti never had much resources, they didnt have much to plant, so how would they live, they had to find a way to live and they had to find something to plant.

The united states also took over them, and they were also racist to the Haitians, and that brought up alot of problems.

Haiti also had to go through the civil war, and many people started dying because of that, and then people started having less families, and less people that can plant resources.

Haiti Update

Haiti was hit badly by an earthquake last week, and they were expecting help, but nobody came last week, but now help is on the way. Many countries are trying to help such as America, France, Norway and others. There are also many websites made that are for donations to Port-Au-Prince, but there is one that senator Obama recommended in a speech, that is http://clintonbushhaitifund.org/index.php, and the maximum donation for that is $1000. People are trying to give aid, such as medicine, toileteries, food, and more stuff. There is also another problem, so many people are rushing to help, so there has been a big crowd at the airports, so only a few people can get through, others have to wait. This is a photo of a guy from the US that is trying to help.

Dark Calling by Darren Shan *****************

This is the second last book of the demonata series, and I'm telling you it's just great, it's a must read, it is one of the greatest books I have ever read.It is about Kernel, it starts off when they are still with Beranabus, and then they go on this boat where they meet Juni, and Beranabus dies, and then the zombies attack Kernel and he falls into a portal. In the portal he sees a ball of light, and the ball of light keeps following him and is trying to convince Kernel to come with him. Finally Kernel goes with him, and the ball of light tells him that he is an Old Creature, and Kernel gets shocked. The creature takes Kernel to the land of The old creatures, and he asks Kernel if he would stay and guard it to keep everyone safe, and this is the biggest decision of Kernel's life. Should Kernel stay at the land and leave all of his friends, or go back to Earth and put the creatures life in danger. Finally Kernel decides to go back to Earth and stay with his friends, but when he opens a portal to Earth, he lands where all of his friends are, but there is a demon attack and he has to fight with his friends, he wins the battle, and he asks his friend to fill him in with whats happened to them, they tell him that Beranabus is dead and he is devastated, and they discuss a plan to try to free Beranabus's soul from the demon that killed him, so they open a portal to the inside of the demons body, they find Beranabus inside, and they free his ghost, but they kill the demon and there is another demon attack. But they win it. And the book ends there.

My favorite part is when the demon attack happens, Grubbs is attacking all the demon and killing them, Bec is fighting hard using magic, and Kernel is fighting hard too. And it describes in detail about how the werewolves and eating all the demons. It was a good part

Haiti Earthquake

A few days ago there was a huge earthquake in Haiti, it was a 7.3 magnitude earthquake, which is pretty strong. This image shows a woman buried by bricks, and a corpse next to her. It was about for 30 seconds, but it was very strong. Tens of thousands of people died, and a lot are injured. Most of the buildings and houses have broken down or have been left ramshackle.

Journal Entry 12/01/10

Hello and welcome to Yash's journal entry today. I will write about an elephant that was very ugly, and that was not respected ever.

My name is Maisjeugegf, I am an elephant that has been through a pretty hard life, and that is because of my looks, I have one eye, two mouths, 3 noses, and 4 arms, yeah I know..you're probably laughing in your minds, and this is my story. I remember the day I was born, I open my eyes and I see two elephant nurses, they are laughing at me..but why? I didn't know either, until I looked at myself in the mirror...I screamed hard! My mom was looking at me, she looked at me and asked the nurse how this happened, "Your son eats to much and the food knocked out one of his eyes and made him grow some things" said the nurse. 2 years later I became two years old, and I went to my first day of school, as I entered this little elephant girl screamed and ran away like she saw a monster. As that happened I god sad and started crying, and I asked god why he made me like this. As I entered math class the teacher saw me and frowned, "This is our new student in class, would you like to introduce yourself?" asked the teacher, "sure, my name is Maisjeugegf and I like soccer. Um.......I know I look weird but can you please not scream and run away like the girl outside did....please?". I thought that would make them understand my feelings but that made it even worse, nobody ever talked to me from then. I needed help to fix my body.

To be continued.......

Family

This is a picture of him in my mom's hands.
Well this break has been a quiet exciting break for me.....I didn't travel anywhere, I didn't do any thing that exciting, but I did get a little brother..my mom was pregnant and she gave birth to a boy named Shaurya.....he is really really small and he is really cute, Its lots of fun being around him and playing with him. He was born on the 28th of December, I would rather have him than any other present, because a present can only last a year of your life, and then you might get bored of it if it is a game or you might not like it very much. But I really like playing with my little brother rather than getting a present.

journal entry 15/12/09

Today I will write about traffic. In jakarta there is alot of traffic, in kemang, in sudirman, in pondok indah, everywhere! I will tell you about some of my traffic stories.

A few years ago, I needed to go to my tution classes, and it took me four hours to get there because I was stuck bumper to bumper for 4 hours! Isnt that bad, and another storie, is I was going for dinner with my family, and I got stuck for 2 hours! Jakarta is a good place to live, but the traffic is a problem, and that needs to be solved! Ways to solve it is just to make more roads, or just to keep a limit of cars on one road, it's very simple, it's easy, but no one is willing to do it. People should just do it, the government should just listen and make peoples life easier. Even my dad thinks that they should just build more roads. I think that people should protest in front of the governent place and try to convince those people to do soething! Traffic is bad!

Journal Entry 09/12/09

This entry will be about service. It is a very good thing, and that is what we did yesterday. We had watched a video about floods that happen in jakarta, they looked really bad, but they were interesting. And that is what gave us the idea about how to help the flood survivors.
We made 1000 buckets for them with soap, toothbrushes, detergent, reppelent, oil, a small mug, a sponge, scrubs, and lots more. And I think when we give the the buckets they will be very happy that they know that someone actually helped them. We spent one hour of our class time to do this, and I think it will be something that I will remember all my life, because we helped the needy, and I felt good about it. Everyone was happy about it, and all of us look forward to do it again, I know I want to.
Service is good, so whenever you see a donation box or something that can help, put some money or something they need in there! Try and help!

Journal Entry 01/12/09

This is my first journal entry on blogspot, and today I am going to write about the king of monkeyland, here it is.

The king of nonkeyland was a very strong monkey, his name was Alfred, he was very muscular and strong, but one day, he fell into the sea and died. He used to fight all his enemies and brutally injure them, but he never killed humans. This is the story of how he died.

One day Alfred was roaming the jungle in his territory, he was walking slowly, picking grapes for his children, but suddenly he heard a noise of horses galloping, he looks everywhere but he cant see where the noise is coming from. He look down and a bunch of horses smash out of the ground and throw him up to the sky, and that is when he realized that he has to fight his biggest enemy. He had no one with him, and he had to fight 7 horses. He thought that he would die, and he was right. He came to the floor and healed himself with magic. But he can only has enough magic to heal himself twice in a day. The first horse comes toward him and Alfred kills him with a ball of fire. 4 other horses try and tackle him but he uses his best magic spell, electric shock. Only two were left, one come and tackles him, and he falls bleeding. He heals himself, that means he has no more healing magic. But he kills the second last horse but brain-washing him. The last horse was the most powerfun, and tackles Alfred, the jungle was right next to the edge of monkeyland. So the horse and Alfred both fall into the sea and die. And now at monkeyland they have a day called Alfred day, where they burn horse dolls. He was a great warrior.

Drought is a time when it doesn't rain, if you live in Etheopia in a small village where a drought occurred, so they might not have mush water with them , so people can die.

3.How does land degradation affect the supply of fresh water?

Land degradation decreases infiltration, so we cant store water down at the aquifer.

4. a.) What is El Nino?

When a warming in temperature occurs

b.) Why does Eil Nino often cause drought in Australia?

Because Austrailia is in the pacific ocean

Dog Days by Jeff Kinney ****

Funny book, it is a book about Greg Heffley. In this book Rowley and him aren't friends anymore because Greg kept ordering food using Rowley's dad's credit card, so his dad said that they have to earn the money and pay him back. But Rowley kept having ideas that Greg didn't like, so they started staying away from each other. This book is basically about his summer and how he developes friendship. It was an OK book, it could have been better.

Water Treatment Plant

Last Thursday, we went to a water treatment plant, there we learnt how people clean water. There were 6 stages, after we went to the stages we watched a movie made by the water treatment plant people.

The first stage was called Garbage Removal, where they take all the some dirty water from the river and they put it in a little area, then they take this scoop thing and put it to the bottom of the water and scoop out all the plastic, leaves, papers, etc. And if the garbage is not all taken out then they continue to push the water to a different are, and do the same thing with another scoop.

Stage 2 was to add alum to the water, and mix it, so the flock coagulates, and it is done because they want all the flock to stick together.

Stage three was to let the flow into another pool, and to let the flock settle to the bottom, once it has settled, it can be called sediment.

Once stage 3 happens, they start stage 4, and that is to let the water filtrate through sand, but they don't use the same sand you get at the beach or the playground, they have to use this very special and small type o sand, to set the trap for the remaining bad things.

Stage 5 was about adding chlorine, which is a disinfectant so they can kill the bad bacteria. The chlorine is not seen underwater.

The final stage was to test again if the water is OK. They need to test to make sure the water is safe to drink!

The movie was about this kid named Jali, who has club fair at his school, and he joins a water cleaning club, the captain of the club is Bondol. He goes underwater with Bondol and learns how to clean water. The field trip was fun!

Bintaro Lama

Last Thursday Mr. Hughes and Mrs. Whitely's class went to the Bintaro Lama kampung to learn more about how people in the villages clean and drink their water. There were groups divided and each group had to go to 3 different stations.
My first station was about how the people get sick while eating their food or by drinking water. The reason the get sick is when people excrete and don't wash their hands, they touch food and water and people get sick. And another reason is also because the flies and bugs get into food and make the food dirty and people get sick by drinking water with the fly that came in.
The next station is about how to use alum to clean water and to get all the flock down. They put this solute called pur to get all the flock down. They mix the pur and wait for 5 minutes and then they put this cloth over the water so the dirt stays and the water, and then they put the water in this ceramic filter and then it takes time to stay there and get clean and then next morning it is ready to drink.
The final station was also about cleaning water. This is not exactly like the last station. They use this things called AirRahmat and Aquatabs. You need at least 20 liters for the aquatab to put in, and then they wait for like 35 minutes, and then the water is okay to drink. For the AirRahmat, you put the AirRahmat liquid in a measuring cup into the water and then you have to shake it for 30 seconds. After you shake, you wait half-an-hour and then the water is potable
We learned a lot at the Kampung and for the people who are going on Thursday, have fun, and there are a lot of flies so it is irritating.

The Black Circle by Patrick Carman *

The clue hunt continues, Dan and Amy have to go to Russia to find the next clue. They follow the steps of Rasputin, a king in Russia a long time ago. And someone is helping them find the clue. They don't know who, but they do know that the person's initials are N.R.R, the clue is hidden in the Amber Room. Which is in the palace where Rasputin's brother died. They go there and they meet N.R.R, she is the royal queen Nataliya, she sends them to the palace and they find the clue. The clue is half a gram of melted amber. My favorite part is when they go in the helicopter at 300 MPH.

WATER 4 PICTURES AND EXPLENATIONS

This is evaporation, evaporation is when water turns into a gas. As you see, the water in the river is becoming into a gas and going into the air.

[condensation.jpg]
This is condensation, it is when steam (or water vapor) turns back into water.
This is underground filled with water because of infiltration, the rain gets into the ground and goes underground in places like this.

This is a hailstorm, otherwise known as precipitation, precipitation is when forms of water fall from the sky, and hail is one form. Other forms are snowfall, rain, sleet and other forms.

My Personal Narrative

The Match Where I Hurt My Ear

I hear a blast, and pain shoots up my ear. I fall, and then get up. I feel a little un-easy, like I’m about to puke. People are glancing at my ear strangely, and I ask them what happened, they wouldn’t answer, and I continue my game.
Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep! The bell rings, I get out of drama class, and hurry down the stairs. I’m running to Q2, my class where my cubby is, and I run to the soccer pitch. I see the game has already started, and my team has the ball, one guy on my team scores. And everyone is cheering and running after him, and then I see that the other teams’ goalie has kicked the ball and is high in the air. The ball lands right at See Won’s feet, (See Won is a guy on the other team) and he is running right toward me. This is my chance I think, I can get the ball now. I run toward See Won, but before I tell you what happens let me tell you this, running toward him was a big blunder. He kicks the ball and it hits me right in the ear impacting like a ball of fire. The bell rings again and I go to math class, where I have to do algebra. The teacher is writing stuff on the board about the algebraic equations, but I can’t bear the throbbing pain in my ear. Has something gone wrong? I think, because I have gotten hit by balls in the ear a billion times but it never hurt this much. I interrupt her lesson and ask if I could have a nurse pass. She lets me go. The nurse says it isn’t a big problem, and I will be fine in days. She gives me some ice to put on. I go back to class. And the bell rings right then, it’s time to go home. I reach home and my mom isn’t there, I ask my maid where she is, but she says she is at the mall. That means I’m alone at home. I do some studying and the bell rings. I run to get it and it is my big brother, I tell him about the damage, and he says it will be fine. My mom comes later on and gives me a pain killer pill, I swallow it and I go to bed. When I put my head on the pillow, my ear burns! I have to sleep straight! But I eventually fall asleep. Next morning my ear is black, I ask my mom and she says it will peel after a while.
Epilogue

My ear is OK now, it doesn’t hurt but it is still black, I am happy I am OK now and I will try to continue my like without getting hurt like this again!

Beyond The Grave by Jude Watson ***

This is an OK book, it could have been done better. It is about Dan and Amy, and they continue their journey of the 39 clues. In this book they have to go to Egypt. The stay in a hotel, and then they find out that the hotel is the Ekaterina stronghold. They find a secret room, and then they see 3 statues, they are of the egyptian god Sakhet. They look around, and this evil guy named Bae trap them inside a cube. He leaves them alone, and then Dan's babysitter frees them. They go downstairs and they are being chased by Bae's troops, but suddenly, a car rolls up and tells them to get in. They go in, and they meet one of thier grandmother's friend. She gives them a bok, they open it, and they find the Egyptian god Sakhet. They turn the statue's head, and a paper pop's out. It says that they have to go to Aswan. They go there and they find out that the clue is underwater. They go underwater with a submarine and they get hit by currents. But later on they find out the clue is Myrhh :), the best part is when they go underwater, everything is brown and disgusting, and then they see a pillar underwater, and the clue is written on it.

The Last Straw by Jeff Kinney *

This is the second last book about Greg. In this book Greg is in school. He has a problem, he likes one girl and there is a dance coming up, and he is thinking of asking her. But of course he doesn't ask and he misses his chance. And then valentines day comes up, and people are supposed to give each other cards. Greg gets a card from the girl he likes and it says to keep in touch. And the Greg's Best Friend gets a card that has a way better message on it, it says to stay cute, so Greg is jealous. And he writes a note to the girl as his best friend, and he says they will never be together. But at the end of the book a new girl comes named Trista, and Greg likes her now. I had no favorite part.

Wolf Island by Darren Shan *****

This book is about Grubbs Grady, this is the book after Death's Shadow. In this Grubbs creates an army of a dozen people, to catch the lambs. But they realize that they have been tricked by the CEO of the lambs, the have called Juni Swan to attack them. In this book Grubbs turns into a werewolf, and he finnaly feels free! But he is a mix of human and werewolf, he says that this is what he needed to be, he is going to live his perfect life now. Before he turns, he goes to this place called wolf island, where they are holding wolfs for hostage. He goes there and the wolves attack him and his army. Eight die, four stay alive. They fight the wolves away, but then Juni Swan comes and attacks Grubbs by herself, without anyone. She was going to kill him but then she got a vision, she said that Grubbs will end the world, destroy every universe, and everything will end. Great book, read it. My favorite part is when Grubbs is changing, it says he goes still and is throwing up on the floor, and then hairs start tlo grow on him, and after a second, he is a wolf.
